Before you all go off on to your summer holidays we just wanted to report back on another packed year of events and fundraising.
Firstly, we wanted to say a massive thank you to all the reps, parents and carers who gave their enthusiasm, time and skills to help as class reps, on the Committee, on events, or in their classes or just by showing up to support an event.
The Summer Fair Circus Extravaganza was a brilliant success. Every single class in the school got involved and together we made about £16,500 which is fantastic! Thanks in particular go to the Year 3 reps who masterminded the day.
For the first time ever we had a sponsored cycle ride. A group of 25 intrepid parents and former parents – some of whom hadn’t been on a bicycle for years – set off on 15 June to the cheers of the Junior children for a gruelling 250km trip to Amsterdam in under 24 hours. The challenge was the brilliant idea of Sarah Wiley who organised it all. Through sponsorship, matched giving from many of the cyclists’ employers, together with Gift Aid, the raffle proceeds, and sponsorship from Martyn Gerrard, A View, The Laboratory Spa, Frog Bikes and MiCycle, this challenge has raised well over £26,000 with some more yet to come. This is a truly spectacular amount raised in one go. Many congratulations to the cyclists and Sarah for their contribution!
What else have we raised?
Well all our other events from Fireworks, to the Quiz, past cake sales, the discos, Christmas trees, and the Yogathon and many, many more have also raised more than £27,000! All whilst having a lot of fun along the way.
Parents and carers have also contributed to Coleridge Families through one off and regular donations which can be Gift Aided if the donors are UK tax payers and donations can be increased 25% as a result. In this way we have been able to give over £45,000 in the last 2 years to the School’s Learning Enhancement Fund to pay for vital equipment like new interactive whiteboards. If you’d like to give in this way please contact us on email@example.com
What have we spent it on?
For the last three years most of the money raised has gone towards the Halls Project. About £63,000 from CF has paid for building work, new sliding doors, stage blocks, black out blinds for all the windows both at ground level and in the roof lights, curtains for the wings, stage lights, speakers and microphones, and renovating the wooden floors. There is some more spending to go on the floors and on storage for the main corridor through the Halls but we are nearly there.
We have been saving up in the last two school years for the next big project which is the complete renovation of the playgrounds. Plans are still in the preliminary stages as Haringey Council are working with the School to resolve a number of structural issues such as subsidence and tree root damage that have to be resolved first. The School is formulating a phased plan with the Borough. However staff and children have been busy making plans. This year’s fundraising together with money saved up will be a significant start to what is likely to be an expensive and long term undertaking. There are some small projects that can and will be done along the way: for instance 7 new water fountains are being purchased to go in and outside the Juniors. We are also looking to support the school to re-landscape the nursery play space in the next academic year.
We say goodbye to the Year 6s and wish them all the best at their new schools but look forward to welcoming many new families to the school in September. Watch out for details of welcome events for Reception parents, get togethers for the reps (it is never too late to volunteer as a rep for your class so just get in touch!), and also for our Annual General Meeting in October or November.
Have a restful summer.
